Teaser Tuesday: The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan

Welcome to another installment of Teaser Tuesday. I finished book two of the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, The Great Hunt (amazon), last week and have now began book three, The Dragon Reborn (goodreads). As I continue to read The Wheel of Time series and post them on Teaser Tuesday, I will do my best to not include spoilers. If you have not read any of these books yet, and think you may, don’t wait. They are that good.

dragon_reborn  Niall drew a deep breath. He could sense the unseen knives waiting in the shadows. But he was committed, now. “It is no treason to do what must be done. And even blasphemy can be tolerated for a cause.” Those two sentences alone were enough to kill him. “Do you know how to unite people behind you, Child Carridin? The quickest way? No? Loose a lion – a rabid lion – in the streets. And when panic grips the people, once it has turned their bowels to water, calmly tell them you will deal with it. Then you kill it, and order them to hang the carcass up where everyone can see. Before they have time to think, you give another order, and it will be obeyed. And if you continue to give orders, they will continue to obey, for you will be the one who saved them, and who better to lead?”

I loved this paragraph when I first read it. It shows what lengths some people would be willing to go in order to gain power. It also shows us how reading fiction can help out understand reality.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should be Reading. Anyone can play along!

Until next time…
